That is, the sturgeon moon of August also happened to be a super moon. Not to alarm anyone that a super strain of sturgeon has been unleashed…
Sturgeon are big guys, the largest freshwater fish in North America and commonly up to 12 feet long. They’re slightly prehistoric looking to my mind, and it’s pretty much their roe (aka caviar) that is the desired part. They are running at this time of year and so more easily caught, hence the moon name. Watch out if you are around their habitats: they leap, which is cool– it seems they may do this just because it feels good, amen– but it can be dangerous.
The sturgeon moon rising Friday, and Saturday. Waning now but still lovely and red-hued while low to the horizon. Last full moon of summer, and with a little heat wave on the way this week we are feeling the summer love xo
